I'd never heard of the area and I went out to visit him, which was quite the journey in itself. Plane to Madrid, then the slow train to Caceres .. after hours of going through the plain in Spain by train, I reached the most extraordinary, unspoilt, medieval city. And amazing food and music yes
Is that Extramadura one from Alan Lomax's vintage recordings of Spanish 'folk' music? It's a great album. A friend of mine - one of those people whose activity makes me feel embarrassingly idle - was the series editor for the Spanish Recordings.

It's exactly that! What a joyful discovery - I knew nothing of it. And s/he sounds both excellent and annoying in their brilliant busyness
