I’m delighted to share something really special with you.
Earlier this year I was invited (along with the excellent Kāren Barnes, ex-editor of Delicious magazine) to put together a collective of 30 of the very best food writers.
We emailed, made calls, and were met with a sea of enthusiasm. Almost no-one we approached declined1, and the appetite for writing agenda-free, without direction, the words they most passionately wanted to share, has been really exciting to be part of.
You can, of course, comment, like and discuss with the writers, as you like - the community of it is so much of what will make it special.
Why it’s different
We knew, instantly, that rather than it being another recipe resource, this should be a place where the very best food writing could be found, a home for food beyond the plate as much as on it.
Expect deep dives, new angles, immersions in other places and time, unexpected detours and writing that is as much about food beyond the plate as what’s on it: you are as likely to come across Caravaggio as custard; the Caribbean as Crouch End. Our hope is for anyone interested in the art and practice of cooking to feel their experience elevated by what they discover.

What do you get
The idea is simple: each of the 30 writes one article a month, so that subscribers get one piece of exceptional writing each day2. There is no agenda, no ‘commissioning’ of articles - just what the writer most wants to communicate, direct from them to you.
The line up is incredible: Diana Henry, Georgina Hayden, Niki Segnit, Itamar Srulovic, Fuchsia Dunlop, Angela Hartnett, among them.
There are more women than men, the geographic and cultural breadth is diverse, there are new voices alongside those many will already know and love.
When does it start?
On April 1, the first article.
How much does it cost?
The standard annual subscription is a ridiculously good value £72 for 365 pieces of exceptional writing each year.
Better still…
A hugely discounted subscription…
…if you are an annual paid subscriber here, you can get the first year’s subscription for a one-off, bettered nowhere else, just for you, £21. That’s 365 piece of writing from this incredible food writing collective for just £21
To claim your discount
If you are an annual paid subscriber: you’ll receive an email from me shortly telling you how to get the discount
If you are a monthly paid subscriber: upgrade to annual, saving you £36/year on a monthly subscription, (here’s how) and let me know by emailing and I’ll send you what you need to get the Scribehound discount
And if you are a free subscriber: once you upgrade to an annual paid subscriber, I’ll email you with details of how to get the discount
I hope you’ll take a look and join us - it’s going to be really special.
More soon, Mark
PS - if you have already subscribed, if you cancel, you can resubscribe using the link I’ve sent to you if you are a paid subscriber
And all but one was due to exclusivity with an existing column
And on longer months, the 31st day is for someone who is a new voice in food (more here), perhaps from an underrepresented community, introduced to us all; you can also write a community article, reaching a wide audience as well as perhaps being highlighted for the 31st day of the month slot
What a project! What a line up! Glad to see you on it too x
Ooh! I saw this on IG and started following, excited to learn more about this project! Very, very cool. I love the idea of food writing not just recipes.
