The After Eight serial killer comment made me guffaw out loud 😆 This American has fond memories of using those wrappers to make Barbie LPs in the 80s. I too have a stash of Sri Lankan cinnamon, that I've been afraid to use up. These seem like the perfect send off for it. Cheers from across the sea

Thank you Jocelyn - and the idea of using After Eight wrappers as Barbie records has made my day! Thank you and Merry Christmas

Confession: We used to replace After Eight sleeves to wind my Mum up. Very dangerous game at Christmas. She also use to refer to duvets as continental quilts when we first got them but she was a champion tucker inner.

Being a champion tucker inner is a really essential parenting skill isn’t it

A revelation - how to make gingerbread spice.....

As for duvets: I remember my mum being so excited on a holiday in Austria in the 70s where she discovered the concept of the duvet, but controversially I think duvets should stay in places where it's cold and dry -where it's cold and damp, sheets and big wooden blankets are the way forward. Plus it feels SO nice being tucked in

Very few feelings beat being tucked in! I think - just about - that I agree with your suggestion👨🏼‍⚖️

Obviously I meant woollen as opposed to wooden blankets. The latter would be uncomfortable and not warm

A very welcome clarification

OMG the After Eights! It was SO annoying when people did that and then you realised there was only one or two left!!!

If I have to use ground mace, as that's all I can get up here in the Highlands, how much should I use please?

Merry Christmas Mark

It’s the very worst! I would go a similar amount of mace - I do love mace and it would work really nicely here. Merry Christmas to you and loved ones

The walnuts, after eights and dates were the stuff of my childhood Christmases where I grew up on a my parents small holding farm with no TV.

I thought that game happens in every house at Christmas! That said there is something magical about the marriage of dark chocolate and mint when you do find the odd after eight that got missed amongst the empty sleeves.

The drumlins in your description of lebkuchen made me smile. I hale from County Down and drumlin country is what there is - all the way to the sea (or the Mournes at the southern end). Beautiful, green velvet bumps of hills full of hedgerows and comforting small vistas. Almost as cosy as warm cinnamon-y spice!

How have I never been there?! It sounds like my kind of place. I do love a Drumlin. Thank you, and Merry Christmas
