How very timely. Currently dealing with 6 deaths in 7 weeks which has left me feeling very much out of step with literally everything because of the lack of time to reflect on one life/death before the next. I’m sure this will resonate with many x

Hello Bee, that's a whole load to be dealing with. It may just be coincidence or whatever, but it feels like life is much more concertinaed these days in sending us things to deal with, including deaths. I hope you find some time to for yourself and reflecting, grieving and whatever you need. Sending you much love and sympathies

Beautiful reminder to keep looking to the future. I am navigating Serious Times currently; nothing massively dramatic but it's very destabilising.

I'm so sorry about the Serious Times and I hope they resolve sharpish. I should send you a society garlic so that when it flowers in spring you will hopefully get that same reminder of how things got better

Just easing ourselves into the world of Substack, Mark, and really liking your combination of video and written storytelling. Inspiring. Sets the bar nice and high for our own intentions. Barrie

It already feels gentler than Twitter and, from a writing point of view, less formulaic than Medium. Always good to have the challenge of something new to learn. From what I've seen already folk are building some really engaged communities. B

I love this story. And will have to hunt for some society garlic.

Hello Valerie, thank you so much. We sell it at the nursery (www.otterfarm.co.uk) but others do too

I think I have these outside our front door, I bought a couple of plants at a garden show because I liked how they looked and the long flowering season. I had no idea you could eat them but will definitely be adding to salads (although not too many as I love the flowers too much!)

Ah yes, but the more you eat the more it produces, so don't be too shy with eating them!

Thank you I had no idea you could eat them. We have two tubs outside the front door full of them. We fell in love with them seeing them in Greece. Do get some funny looks from the postman though as the smell is quite pungent and not that of garlic

Yes, a sort of garlic/onion cross - perhaps even closer to dried onion than fresh. And only the flowers are edible as far as I'm aware.
