After watching the video, I’m so glad I caught Lia’s pitch to the public on twitter at the time and put in a little bit of my money to help make it a reality. At that time it felt like a punt but lots of other people thought the same as me - that this was something we needed in our lives! It’s the only time I’ve ever invested in a crowdfunded book but it struck a strong cord with me. It will be so lovely to see the next part of this from Lia’s perspective as I know it from the other side!
Ooh loving this - especially the notion of having any idea that doesn't necessarily resonate initially but you allow it to take shape even after rejections. If I were you Markie D I'd be zipping through all my recorded voice memos to really check it wasn't your idea originally!! Also, I'm going to buy you something nice to hang on the wall behind you. Well...most importantly this afternoon I hung an old picture of the Kent coast where I used to live up on that wall, so rest easy! Rejections are a devil, but they are part of the business, and I really believe that with most things you have to embrace the whole deal - and writing's whole deal involves rejections. It is the getting dough under your nails when making bread, getting smokey hair when doing what you do etc etc. It comes with the territory. Take the advice, listen to the feedback and use it to your advantage, but keep moving forward. Do you have an idea you are nursing? If so, maybe I can twist your arm for a chat on here...x
